Minnesota is looking for that bruising and productive back for their 2015 class and offered a under the radar tailback in Fargo (ND.) South senior running back James johannesson. He talks about the Gopher offer and why it means more as well.
“I talked to Coach Poore for an hour on Wednesday night and he just came out and said we have a full scholarship for you,” Johannesson told GopherDigest. “I was so surprised and happy that it was a Big Ten offer and it was for running back and not linebacker.”
“It means a whole lot and that is what I want to play so if it was for linebacker, I don’t know if I would want that. I am very interested in Minnesota, but I’m still equally looking at all my offers and make sure I know what’s the best for me.”
The under the radar 6-1, 210-pound workhorse back holds offers now from North Dakota, North Dakota State, Yale and Minnesota. His interest level has risen with the offer from the Gophers and he could be visiting soon.
“I just know Minnesota is a great program and they have it so good there as football players and students,” said Johannesson. “I like the facilities and all the coaches I’ve met are really cool great guys. I want to visit them and I think I might on August 9 and watching a practice and meeting everyone. I am very excited for the chance to be a Gopher."
Johannesson might have a top list come out soon, but knows whoever gets him is getting a complete back.
“I am a hard nosed and really physical player. I can beat down my opponents with my strength and also if they give me space I have enough speed to break away from them.”
