Sharp Shooter Isaiah Zierden Gets Interest
Howard Pulley head man Rene Pulley said that Zierden is comparable to one of his top players from the past.
"He shoots the ball like Jake Sullivan (former Iowa State standout) shoots the ball and he is a better ballhandler than Sullivan."
Zierden attended a game at Wisconsin this season and has ties to Minnesota, where his father has served as an assistant coach and broadcaster.
Zierden has shined for the Howard Pulley program this spring, leading them to a 12-2 mark in the Nike EYBL. He averaged ten points per game in Los Angeles this past weekend.
Georgia Tech, Northern Iowa, Colorado State, Santa Barbara, Central Michigan, Wisconsin Green Bay, Michigan, Santa Clara, Wisconsin and Minnesota are among the schools that have shown recruiting interest, according to Pulley.
GoldenSports.Net recently caught up Zierden to learn the latest on his recruitment.
What school are you hearing from the most?
"Since June 15th, they can start talking to me. I heard from Northern Iowa, Colorado State, Iowa and Santa Clara. I guess I'll see where it goes."
Howard Pulley is a young team that is not overly big, so you have to be pleased with your 12-2 start in the Nike EYBL.
"Nobody expected us to actually have a winning record. We walk onto the floor and we just don't look like an athletic team. We just play together as a team and that is one of the main things why we are winning, because we play as one."
Do you think that opposing team think that ‘These guys are from Minnesota. They can't play?"
"They look at us when we go out on layups and we are just laying it up and they are doing windmills (dunks). They probably think that they've got an easy one here, but we always like to come out and fight."
How about your high school team? You lost some key players like Peter Crawford, Seth Marx and Darren Glover, but you return some good young players. What are the expectations?
"We are expecting nothing less than last year. Last year, we wanted to win the state tournament with all our great players. We expect to do the same this year, even though we are young. We just expect to get back there. I want to win. I don't want to just set a goal to get to the state semifinals. I want to win, so that is our goal every year."
Zierden is an outstanding outside threat. He is more athletic than observers might expect and has a high basketball IQ.
