Tom Olson Firmly Committed to Minnesota
Olson will be a four-year starter for Mahtomedi. He has high hopes for the team in his final high school season.
"Everyone wants to win a state championship," Olson said. "We have a lot of good seniors. We lost a lot of our defense, but we have a lot of our offense coming back. Hopefully, we can do something big and get the state championship."
The Zephyrs traditionally have a strong rushing attack and return their starting signal caller.
"We've got a fast quarterback (Dan Ferrazzo) back," Olson said. "He is a really fast guy. He runs a 4.5 40. Really fast. Our running back is back, too. It will be a pretty good year on offense. Hopefully, we can hold it together on defense this year."
Olson is uncertain if he will attend any football camps this summer.
"I don't know back," Olson said. "I have a lot of baseball this summer. I am going to try and play baseball and work out a lot this summer. If I have a chance to go to camp, I will, but I might have a lot of baseball, so I don't know. "
Olson plays first base for the Mahtomedi.
"I love baseball," Olson said. "It is a lot of fun. I like hitting the ball and having a good time. It is kind of relaxing sports for me, getting away from football for a bit."
The Zephyrs are off to a 5-7 start in baseball this season.
It is kind of a bad year back," Olson said. "We don't have the best pitching, but we can hit the ball pretty good.
Despite his commitment to Minnesota, Olson admits that other schools still contact him.
Alabama and Ohio State back," Olson said. "Pretty much, the whole Big 10. Notre Dame sends me a lot of stuff, like every day and their coaches are starting to call me. It doesn't matter, because I am still go to come here."
Olson helped lead the Zephyrs to a 6-6 mark as a sophomore playing aside his older brother, losing to Northfield 21-13 in the state quarterfinals. The record is misleading as they had to forfeit five games due to using an ineligible player.
Olson was a freshman starter as Mahtomedi finished 10-4, losing to Totino-Grace 13-8 on the last play of the game of the Prep Bowl.
