Minnesota kept their NCAA tournament hopes alive with a 76-55 win over Penn State in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament. The Gophers will face Michigan State in the second round. They lost to the Spartans twice during the regular season, including a heart-breaking one point loss at Williams Arena. The Gophers got good news with the losses by Arizona State, UAB, Memphis and Seton Hall.

Minnesota led 29-20 at halftime and expanded the margin as they shot 69.2% from the field and 60% from three-point range in the second half.

Devoe Joseph led all scorers with 15 points as he made six of ten shots from the field and three of four from beyond the arc. Colton Iverson came off the bench to score twelve points as he made all five shot from the field, Damian Johnson had eleven points and Lawrence Westbrook added ten points.

Penn State had four players who finished with ten points. The Nittany Lions finished the season 11-20.

Minnesota improved to 19-12 and a win over Michigan State would give them 20 wins and a more compelling case to the NCAA tournament selection committee.
