The Minnesota high school playoffs begin tomorrow, so it seemed like a perfect time to release the GoldenSports.Net All-Metro Basketball Teams. Kevin Noreen, who recently became the state's all-time leading scorer, is my choice for the Metro Player of the Year. The following is a look at my choice for the All-Metro teams.
First Team All-Metro
Kevin Noreen
Minnesota Transitions
Jacob Thomas
Columbia Heights
Joe Coleman
Hopkins
Marshall Bjorklund
Sibley East
Shelby Moats
Waconia
Kevin Noreen
was my choice for the Metro Player of the Year. He is averaging a metro-area best 38.2 points and 16.3 rebounds per game. He has helped lead the Wolves to a 23-3 mark, losing to Class AA Crosby-Ironton, Class AAA Columbia Heights and Class AAAA Minnetonka. He scored 83 points in the three losses. The Wolves have won 15 straight games. Noreen is shooting 70.1% from the field, 52.4% from three-point range and 78.5% from the line.
Jacob Thomas
is averaging 26.8 points per game, fourth best in the Metro Area. The Long Beach State signee has scored 40 or more points in three games, including a season-best 47 points in a win over Benidle St. Margaret. Thomas has helped lead the Hyalnders to a 20-6 mark and they face St. Anthony Village Wednesday in the Class AAA playoffs.
Joe Coleman
is averaging 25 points per game for the #1 ranked Class AAAA Royals, after coming off the bench as a junior. He scored in double figures in all 26 games and had six games of 30 or more points, including a season-best 43 points in the season opener over Minneapolis Patrick Henry. He has led Hopkins to 17 straight wins and they will begin their quest for a second straight Class AAAA title Tuesday against Minneapolis Southwest.
Marshall Bjorklund
is averaging 25.3 points, 15.4 rebounds and 4.4 blocked shots per game. The North Dakota State signee had double figure scoring and rebounding efforts in every game but the season finale. He led the Wolverines to a 19-4 mark and they open Class AA playoff action against Rockford.
Shelby Moats
is averaging 21.2 points per game and has scored in double figures in all 25 contests. He has scored 20 or more points 16 times with a season-best 32 points against Watertown-Mayer. The 22-3 Wildcats will open Class AAA playoff action versus Minneapolis Washburn.
Second Team All-Metro
Tom Schalk Apple Valley
Jake White
Chaska
Estan Tyler
St. Paul Johnson
Marvin Singleton
Hopkins
Tyus Jones
Apple Valley
Tom Schalk
is averaging 22.7 points per game for the 19-7 Eagles. They are the top seed in Class AAAA, Section 3 and face Park of Cottage Grove. Schalk scored in double figures in all 26 games and had three games of 30 or more points, including a season-high 35 points versus Burnsville.
Jake White
, who went over 1,000 points for his career, is averaging 22.0 points per game. He has paced Chaska to a 15-11 mark and a third seed, who opens play against Bloomington Kennedy. White has scored in double figures in all 26 contests with a career-high 40 points against Lakeville North.
Estan Tyler
has helped lead the Governors to a 26-0 mark and is the team's only double figure scorer on one of the state's deepest and most balanced teams. Tyler is averaging 13.7 points per game this season and has scored in double figures in 18 of 25 games this year. They have had only two games with less than a twelve-point margin in 2010, a stretch of 16 games.
Marvin Singleton
scored in double figures in 24 of 26 games for the Royals. He is averaging 18.9 points per game. He and fellow junior Coleman combine for 43.9 points per game.
Tyus Jones
received plenty of hype as an eighth grader starting for a Lake conference team. However, he lived up to and exceeded expectations as he averaged 16.5 points per game and leads the Metro area in assists. Jones scored in double figures in 20- of 26 games.
