Minnesota and Texas Agree To Home and Home
Tim Brewster gets home and home series with Texas

Minnesota and Texas have agreed to play a home-and-home football series in 2015 and 2016. The Longhorns will visit TCF Bank Stadium on Sept. 19, 2015 and Minnesota will travel to Austin, Texas for a matchup at Darrell K. Royal Stadium on Sept. 17, 2016. The Gophers have only faced Texas once in their 126-year history, with Minnesota taking a 47-19 win in Minneapolis in 1936.
Head coach Tim Brewster served as an assistant coach under current Longhorn head coach Mack Brown.
“This is another indication of the efforts being made by Coach Brewster and our athletic department to provide an attractive schedule for our fans and student-athletes,”
Minnesota
Director of Athletics Joel Maturi said. “I’d like to thank (Associate Athletic Director) Marc Ryan for his hard work in putting together our football schedule.”
In addition to the
Texas
series, Minnesota has also announced the addition of
Navy
to the schedule in 2019 and 2020. The Gophers and Midshipmen have one previous game in the record books, a 21-0 Minnesota victory at Memorial Stadium in 1962.
“It’s another great opportunity to help ourselves, facing two great teams like Texas and Navy,” Minnesota head coach Tim Brewster said. “It creates tremendous excitement with our fan base, our players and in recruiting. We’re thrilled to death to announce that we’re going to play two quality opponents like the University of Texas and the United States Naval Academy.”
In addition to the Texas and Navy series, the Gophers have also added
Indiana State
to the 2016 slate. The addition of the Indiana State game leaves Minnesota’s non-conference slate full through 2016, with the exception of one contest in 2012 that still needs to be filled.
