Freshman wide receiver Brodrick Smith from Garden City, Kansas has left the squad. Smith saw action in 12 of Minnesota’s 13 games as a freshman last season. He recorded five receptions for 50 yards and one touchdown in 2008. Smith caught two touchdown passes as he caught four passes for 98 yards, including a 59-yard score from MarQueis Gray in the fourth quarter.

Brodrick Smith was expected to be a bigger feature in the Gophers' offense this upcoming season

“Brodrick is planning to transfer closer to home,” Minnesota head coach Tim Brewster said. “He has a young son and would like to be closer to him. I admire Brodrick’s decision and commitment to his son. We wish him the best of luck in the future.”
