43 Hoops 16-and-Under AAU team shined this past weekend at the Adidas May Classic Tournament held in Bloomington, Indiana. They won the 2008 tournament and were 5-0. Unfortunately, a flight conflict prevented them from trying to repeat as champions.
43 Hoops 16U started with a pool play victory over D1E Derrick Rose All-Stars from Chicago.
Jordan Smith
had 13 points and
Jameson Parsons
had twelve. Estan Tyler,
Marquel Curtis
and
Jake White
all had eleven points in a balanced effort.
They defeated the Michigan Mustangs 76-54 in their second game after trailing 34-32 at halftime. Smith led the way with 15 points. Marquel Curtis and
Ross Travis
, who had an impressive dunk over a 6-foot-9 Mustang that seemed to change the momentum, had 13 each and Jameson Parsons added twelve.
43 Hoops defeated SYF Players 73-5 in their first playoff game. Smith was once again the top scorer with 14 points. Jake White had eleven points and Tom Schalk added and six key offensive rebounds. Estan Tyler had eight assists.
43 Hoops defeated Queen City in the quarterfinals 76-69 after leading by 15 points at halftime. Schalk led with 16 points and Jordan Smith and Marquel Curtis had 15 points each. Jameson Parsons and Estan Tyler had nine points each and Tyler dished eight assists.
The semi-final game was a rematch of game one pool play with D1E Derrick Rose All-Stars out of Chicago. D1E led at halftime 26-25, but 43 Hoops went on to pull away in the second half 68-44. Estan Tyler and Marquel Curtis led the team with 13 points and Freddie Young had six assists and four steals.
The championship game was not scheduled until 5:30 p.m. and 43 Hoops had a 7:10 flight, so they were unable to compete in the championship game.
