Wisconsin QB Tom Parish Commits to Minnesota
Why did you choose Minnesota?
"There were a couple factors, 1) Minnesota is just the right fit 2) ) My sisters, Katie and Kelly, both attended the University of Minnesota and has great experiences 3) The Gophers are the program on the rise in the Big Ten 4) Coach Brewster and his coaching staff felt I could contribute to the future success of their program."
The 2010 recruiting process is just starting, why did you commit so soon?
"Coach Tom Taraska and my family agreed that we were looking for the one school that was the right fit. Once we found it we would be done, and Minnesota was it."
What are the schools were you considering?
Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Harvard, Stanford, Michigan State, UCLA, Alabama, UW-Whitewater, Eastern Illinois and Western Michigan."
Your father (Steve) and Grandfather (Frosty) were both quarterbacks at Wisconsin, did you feel pressure to follow in their footsteps?
"They both want what is best for me and it was Minnesota."
What are your plans now?
"I will be attending the Nike Elite 11 QB camps in Athens, Georgia on April 24 and State College, Pennsylvania on May 2. This summer I will attend the Gopher Football Camp and Tony Romo's QB Camp."
Parish would be the fifth player to commit to Minnesota and the second from the Badger State. He joins Lamonte Edwards from Woodbury, Jimmy Gjere of Irondale, Antoine Lewis from Proviso East and Konrad Zagzebski of D.C. Everest.
Arrowhead traditionally has one of the state's top rushing attacks. However, that has not stopped Arrowhead coach Tom Taraska from praising his signal-caller's abilities. Taraska previously coached Wisconsin quarterback Tyler Donovan and recently compared the two to the Wisconsin State Journal.
"He's every bit as talented as Donovan," Taraska said. "A little taller, a little bigger, but a great athlete. He probably had as good a junior year as any kid we've ever had."
Parish also received recent scholarship offers from Wisconsin, Iowa and Western Michigan. He also received recruiting interest from Stanford, Harvard and UW-Whitewater.
Parish completed 47 of 82 passing attempts for 723 yards and eight touchdowns in 2008. He rushed 77 times for 422 yards and six scores.
Parish comes from a football family as both his father and grandfather are former Division I quarterbacks.
Minnesota has former Arrowhead player Jake Ferris, a recruited walk-on, on the roster, and Joey Balthazor, another recruited walk-on, will join the team this summer.
Parish has plenty of ties to Minnesota and recruiting coordinator Dan Berezowitz. His father, Steve, was coached by Dan's father (Bob Berezowitz), who went on to coach at Wisconsin-Whitewater, and Tom plays basketball for Steve Berezowitz, Bob's other son. Long-time Arrowhead coach Tom Taraska was recommended for the position by Bob Berezowitz.
