Brooks Michel lead Carmel to state title game

Brooks Michel, a 6-foot-7, 280-pound tackle from Carmel who committed to Minnesota, helped lead the Greyhounds to the Class AAAAA title game. Unfortunately, they lost 36-33, despite leading 33-14 in the largest comeback in state finals history. Center Grove recovered two onside kicks in the final 8:18 as they scored three touchdowns. Carmel, the defending Indiana state champs, finished 13-2.

Brooks Michel helped lead Carmel to the Indiana state title game. They defeated Center Grove 33-32 in the regular season. The Greyhounds finished 13-3 last year, winning the state championship. Their two losses were to future Gophers QB Marqueis Gray of Indianapolis Ben Davis, 28-27, and a 32-31 defeat to Greenwood (IN) Center Grove.

Michel, who had also received interest from Alabama, Virginia, North Carolina and Big 10 schools such as Iowa, helped star quarterback Morgan Newton rush 19 times for 211 yards.

Michel is expected to take his official visit to Minnesota Dec. 12.
