JC CB Daryl Robinson Talks About Gopher Commitment

Daryl Robinson, a 5-foot-10, 175-pound cornerback from West Hills (CA) CC, has committed to Minnesota during his official visit. Robinson played as a freshman running back at Temple before transferring to the California Junior College and playing on the defensive side. GoldenSports.Net caught up with Robinson to learn more about his decision to become a Golden Gopher.

Daryl Robinson became the 15th player to commit to Minnesota. Robinson made the decision during his official visit to the campus this weekend.

"What really impressed me is the coaching staff. The whole atmosphere around Minneapolis," he said. "I had never been to Minnesota in my whole life. I knew how the coaches acted. I just wanted to see what the coaches were all about. That made me seal the deal."

West Hills had a disappointing 1-9 season, but he had the opportunity to move to the defensive side. Robinson rushed 88 times for 347 yards and caught 16 passes for 171 yards and one score. Robinson, despite his ability to play both sides of the field, thinks that he will play defense next year.

"I think corner. I love playing corner, but some slots too, punt returns and kick returns," he said.

Robinson made the switch to defense after his freshman season. The move was not that difficult for Robinson, who played both sides of the field in high school.

"I was rated high as a cornerback in high school," he said. "They wanted me to make that change at Temple this spring. That was a good change for me to do that there and then go back to West Hills and play corner there. I'll play whatever. I guess my main focus right now is corner and punt returns."

Robinson thinks that he has several strengths as a cornerback.

"At corner, I know how to read the coverages better, to get off blocks," he said. "I can tackle. I am a physical corner. I am kind of small, but everyone says I am more physical than I look."
