Cole Stefan, a 6-foot-3 junior shooting guard from Minnetonka, is one of the top outside shooters in the Class of 2010. He helped lead Net Gain Sports to the Twin Cities Summer Classic title and the Gold Division championship in the adidas Supper 64 in Las Vegas. GoldenSports.Net recently caught up with Stefan at the Full Court Showcase this weekend to learn the latest on his recruitment.

Cole Stefan put on a shooting display this summer that has earned him several scholarship offers and plenty of recruiting interest. In fact, the only thing that has slowed Stefan down is a recently suffered broken nose. He wore a mask this weekend during play, but re-injured his nose minutes into the first game, causing a quick end to his weekend play.

Goldensports.Net talked to Stefan about the latest on his recruitment.

You are going out west this weekend to check out Santa Clara, Pepperdine and Long Beach State. What do you know about those schools?

"Not a whole lot. I'm going out there just with an open mind. Trying to figure things out and add that to the list of schools that I am interested in. I am going to Santa Clara on Thursday and then the other two sometime on Friday and Saturday. I have not talked to any of the coaches about a Midnight Madness. I just talked to them about coming out to watch a practice and watched them work out."

You are going out to Gonzaga November 16th for a game, right?

"(I'm going to) one of their first games for an unofficial. Just to check it out. I was out there for their Elite camp in June and I am going to make my way back out there."

Stefan also plans to go to Drake for a visit.

How did you break your nose?

"I was at an open gym. I went up to block a shot. On the way down, it came through and my nose was laying on the other side of my face. It wasn't good. I had surgery the week after and they had to go in and re-break it and chip some bone off to get it back into place, so now I have to wear a mask."

What happened today when you re-injured your nose?

"I caught an elbow and re-aggravated it. It is pretty sore."

Do you have a favorite school yet?

"I do not. It is still early for me. There are so many schools that have made contact with me and new schools have contacted me. It is pretty wide open."

You missed most of last season with an injury, yet attracted plenty of interest playing AAU ball. Do you think that you will pick up some new schools playing this season for Minnetonka?

"That will hopefully add more interest to what I have already and hopefully I'll have a good high school season.

What are your expectations for this school, having lost so many key seniors, but still having some returning players who did not get much of an opportunity last season?

"I think that we will still be a very good team. We'll still be far over .500. A lot of unsung players, seniors like Kyle Risinger and Taylor Nelson. We've got some young guys coming up that will be ready to fill minutes and maybe have a nice role on the team. I'm just really looking forward to kind of beginning my high school career and playing a lot."

How has the open gyms been in terms of getting team chemistry, despite not having Kyle Risinger and Taylor Nelson, due to football?

"It is obviously tough not having two of your top five players there. Open gyms are competitive. They get more and more competitive each time I go. It's great. I think that we'll be fine when the season rolls around."

What offers do you have right now?

"I have I believe six. Illinois State, Northern Iowa, Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Oral Roberts, Montana State and South Dakota State."

Your mother and father both went to Montana State?

"He played JV for two years and varsity for a year. He did not play his senior year and went to graduate school at the 'U.'"

Your family has a house in Montana, right?

"We have a little house kind of by a mountain. It is kind of a nice little getaway when we can get out there. I have not been there since I was 12, but I know a lot about Bozeman and I know a lot about the surrounding areas."

What are you hearing from Minnesota?

They invited me to the Tubby Tip-Off. I won't be here for that. I leave that day to go out West. I talk to them every week. I get an e-mail from one of the coaches every week. I definitely am still in touch with them a lot.
