Duane Bennett could be sidelined for the season

Duane Bennett, a sophomore running back who had strong efforts in the Gophers' wins over Northern Illinois and Bowling Green, could be sidelined for the season with a torn ACL. Tim Brewster will address the team's injury issues during his Tuesday press conference.

Duane Bennett earned freshman All-Big Ten honors from The Sporting News last season as he appeared in 10 of 12 games. He was the Gophers' starting running back in seven contests, including six starts during Big Ten play. Bennett finished his freshman year ranked second on the team with 107 carries and third with 442 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns.

Bennett rushed 18 times for 92 yards and two touchdowns and had four receptions for 25 yards in their season-opening 31-27 win over Northern Illinois. Bennett rushed 32 times for 140 yards and had 12 catches for 125 yard in the two games.

Shady Salamon, who led the Gophers with 64 rushing yards on 12 carries, including his first career touchdown, would be the likely starter if Bennett is done for the season.
