Rodney Williams To Take Minnesota Visit

Rodney Williams narrows school list to two

Rodney Williams Jr., a 6-foot-6, 185-pound forward from Robbinsdale (MN) Cooper, will visit Minnesota on Sept. 19. Williams, who is one of the country's top athletes, is considered a must-get recruit for Minnesota, which has landed AAU teammate Royce White. GoldenSports.Net caught up with Howard Pulley AAU head man Rene Pulley to learn the latest on his recruitment.

Rodney Williams Jr. paced Cooper to a 23-9 mark this past season as he led the Hawks to a fourth-place finish in the Class AAAA State Tournament. They upset Osseo in the section finals, giving the Orioles their only loss of the season. Williams Jr. averaged 2.31 points, 6.8 rebounds, 3.1 blocked shots and 2.4 assists per game.

Williams Jr. averaged 17.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.4 blocked shots and 2.3 assists per game as he led the Hawks to a 21-7 record as a sophomore.

Williams has narrowed his list of schools to two, according to Rene Pulley. Williams will visit Minnesota Sept. 19 and Santa Clara the following weekend. He is expected to visit the Broncos with Santa Clara commit Raymond Cowels.

Williams had been considering Miami, Connecticut and Kansas. However, Pulley said that Williams had concerns about Miami, due to hurricanes. Kansas is recruiting standout Xavier Henry, who is also looking at Memphis, where his older brother C.J., a baseball prospect for the New York Yankees, decided to walk-on. Connecticut has not set up a visit with Williams.

Williams has worked hard on his academics to be eligible as a college freshman. He skipped the Paul Pierce Skills Academy in July to attend summer school.

Williams attended the LeBron James Skills Academy for the second straight year along with White as well as the Nike Global Challenge.
