Marqueis Gray Hopes to Return in Spring

Minnesota head football coach Tim Brewster announced Monday that Marqueis Gray will not be part of the football program during the 2008 season, but will seek to return to the University for the spring semester.

MarQueis Gray, a 6-foot-4, 205-pound quarterback from Indianapolis (IN) Ben Davis, who played in the U.S. Army All-American Game, was considered the Gophers' top recruit in the Class of 2008. Gray announced his commitment to Minnesota over Oregon at the U.S. Army All-American Game. Gray received a four-star ranking from Scout.com, which ranked him as the nation's No. 14 high school quarterback.

Gray missed the majority of his senior season after suffering a broken bone in his non-throwing arm. He saw action in just five games during 2007, including three after returning from the injury.

"I'm confident that I can clear up my situation this fall and I'm excited to re-join my teammates at Minnesota," said Gray, a highly-touted freshman quarterback.

"We look forward to having Marqueis back with the Gopher football program soon," Brewster said.
