Matt Vogrich Draws Big Ten Interest
Matt Vogrich Draws Big Ten Interest

Matt Vogrich, a 6-foot-4 shooting guard from Lake Forest (IL), had his “worst shooting game of the year.” However, he still finished with 20 points to lead Full Package to a victory over Net Gain Sports in adidas Super 64 play Tuesday. Minnesota assistant coach Vince Taylor caught his first game and GoldenSports.Net witnessed his second game and talked to him about the latest on his recruitment.
Matt Vogrich
, one of the top shooters in the Class of 2009, has attracted plenty of interest this spring and summer, including offers and attention from several Big Ten schools. He led Lake Forest to a 16-12 mark as a junior as he averaged 18 points and eight rebounds per game as his team's tallest player. He shot 53% from the field and 41% from three-point range, but his stock has soared with a strong spring and summer with his AAU team.
“I had been shooting the ball really well before tonight. We’ve lost only one game in July. We won Valpo and made it to the Final Four in the Take 5,” he said.
His strong play has attracted plenty of new offers. He scored 30 points in his first game in Vegas, hitting five three-pointers.
“I have offers from
Wake Forest
,
Georgia Tech
,
Colorado
,
Iowa
,
Northwestern
, Valparaiso,
Providence
, William & Mary,
Baylor
, Mimai of
Ohio
,
St. Louis
and Bucknell. I’ve gotten interest from
Notre Dame
,
Michigan
,
Stanford
,
UCLA
and
Virginia
."
Minnesota
has shown recent interest in Vogrich.
“Minnesota called twice,” he said.
Vogrich said that he is wide open in his recruitment.
“I’m just taking it all in," he said. "I’m playing and seeing who offers. I’m just trying to win games."
Vogrich has not made any plans to make official visits yet.
“It depends who offers. I liked Miami of Ohio when I visited there. It was my only visit.”
Vogrich had interest in two Big Ten schools, but unfortunately they do not have any available scholarships.
"My mom went to
Wisconsin
and I have always wanted to go there, but they don't have any scholarships. My dad went to
Illinois
, but they don't have any scholarships either," he said.
Vogrich is an outstanding shooter, who draws some comparison to Minnesota guard Blake Hoffarber. He might be a slightly better athlete than Hoffarber, but is probably not quite the clutch shooter the former ESPY winner is. Vogrich is a good passer, who needs to continue to improve his ballhandling and get stronger. He is an excellent student with a 4.8 GPA on a five-point scale and earned a 30 on his ACT. Vogrich hopes to major in business in college.
