David Schwerman will Walk-On at Minnesota
Schwerman also had one carry for 33 yards and caught three passes for 61 yards and one touchdown. He was named first-team Classic Eight Conference as a junior and senior as a kicker and as a punter as a sophomore.
Schwerman passed up a full scholarship from South Dakota State and a 75 percent scholarship from Southern Illinois.
"I attended the Minnesota-Wisconsin game. It was a good experience. I went to their kicking camp this past summer and took an unofficial visit two or three weekends ago," he said.
Schwerman said that the opportunity to play Big Ten football was appealing to him.
"I think that there is a great chance I'll be able to play there," he said. "I've been accepted to the Carlson of School of Business, which is one of the top schools in the country. They have a great campus and I talked to several students that I know and they gave me great feedback.
"I will have a chance to earn a scholarship. They said that I will redshirt next season with Joel Monroe coming back for his senior year and Eric Ellestad, the only other kicker on the roster. I am really going to train hard and hope to play."
Schwerman has attended the Jamie Kohl's kicking camp in the past, which he feels has helped him significantly.
"They have camps all over the country and now I am a counselor. They just hired me a couple of months ago," he said.
Schwerman said that being a counselor has helped him.
"You really don't know something until you can teach him."
Schwerman thinks that he has several strengths as a kicker.
"I think that I have a lot of potential. I have a strong leg and I am accurate," he said.
Schwerman is working hard to improve his kicking game.
"I'm working on getting more height on the ball. I want to improve my leg strength, which will help with kickoffs and longer field goals," he said.
Schwerman is an excellent student who made the most recent Kettle Moraine honor roll.
