Taylor Lewan visits Minnesota for Junior Day

Taylor Lewan, a 6-foot-6, 270-pound lineman from Cactus Shadows, visited Minnesota for Junior Day this weekend. Despite living in Arizona, Lewan said that he loved the colder than normal January temperatures in Minnesota. This may sound surprising, but his father played for the Gophers and the family still has relatives in the state. GoldenSports.Net talked to Lewan about his recruitment.

Taylor Lewan played defensive end, defensive tackle, offensive tackle and tight end in high school, but is being looked at mostly on the defensive line by college teams. This was his first junior day, but he liked the visit enough to tell GoldenSports.Net that he plans to attend the Minnesota football camp in June.

Lewan said that he bench presses 315 pounds and squats 455 pounds and runs a 4.9 40-yard dash.

Lewan has no offers yet, but will attend the Nike Combine in April.

Lewan's father, Dave, attended Minnesota from 1982-87, but saw his football career cut short after undergoing lung surgery after his sophomore year. He spent time growing up in Edina before attending high school in Canada.

Lewan had hoped to attend the Nike combine in Phoenix next month, but younger brother Bryce has a hockey event.

Now that sounds like a Minnesotan at heart.
