Dan Coleman named co-Big Ten Player of the Week

The Big Ten Conference announced that Gopher forward Dan Coleman has been named Co-Big Ten Conference Player of the Week for games played Dec. 17-23. Coleman, who shares the honor with Illinois center Shaun Pruitt, is the first Minnesota player to be named player of the week since Vince Grier received the conference's selection on Feb. 7, 2005.

Dan Coleman, a senior from Minneapolis, Minn. (Hopkins HS), scored a game-high 20 points and added a career-high six steals while also blocking three shots in 29 minutes in the Gophers' 68-50 victory over Santa Clara on Dec. 22, Minnesota's lone game of the week.

On Dec. 8 against Colorado State, Coleman became just the 34th player in school history to record 1,000 career points, thanks to a 22-point effort. He added a season-high 24 points on Dec. 12 vs. South Dakota State and the aforementioned 20 points against Santa Clara to put him in 30th place on the career points list with 1,052 points.

Coleman, who averages a team-high 14.3 points and 6.0 rebounds, is also just 30 rebounds shy of 500 boards in his career which would make him just the 17th Gopher player with 1,000 points and 500 boards in a career. Coleman also has 88 career blocks, just five shy of Minnesota's top-10.

The Gophers return to action on Friday, Dec. 28, as they travel to Las Vegas, Nev. to take on Nicholls State in game one of the Duel in the Desert at the Thomas & Mack Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. Central. The Gophers are also in action on Saturday, Dec. 29 and Sunday Dec. 30 in Las Vegas against Kennesaw State and UNLV, respectively. Saturday's game is scheduled to tip at 7 p.m. Central with Sunday's game scheduled for 6 p.m. Central.
