Rhys Lloyd named NFL Europe Player of the Week

Foprmer Minnesota Gopher kicker Rhys Lloyd of the Frankfurt Galaxy was named the NFL Europe League Special Teams Players of the Week for games played the second week of the 2007 season (April 20-22).

Rhys Lloyd, a British kicker who starred at Minnesota, was named Special Teams Player of the Week after converting a league record-tying 56-yard field goal for the Galaxy in its win. The kick, worth four points under NFL Europa rules - tied the mark set by Rhein Fire kicker Danny Kight during a game against the Barcelona Dragons on May 6, 2000. Lloyd added two conversions to end the game with six points.

"The 56-yard attempt is routine," said Lloyd, who leads NFL Europa in scoring with 18 points. "Whether I kick a 30-yarder or one from 60, it's the same. I had a great snap, a great hold and a great kick. It took 11 guys."
