Logan Payne, a 6-foot-2, 205-pound wide receiver shined at the Gophers Pro Day held at the Gibson-Nagurksi Football Complex Monday. Payne and Gopher teammates defensive back Trumaine Banks, defensive lineman Eric Clark and linebacker Mario Reese represented the Gophers at Pro Timing Day. The players were measured and tested for their vertical, broad jump, bench press, 40-yard dash and shuttle run.
Seventeen NFL scouts, including representatives from Cleveland, Minnesota, New England, the New York Giants, Green Bay, St. Louis, the New York Jets and Jacksonville were present.
Wide receiver
Logan Payne
was measured with a 39-inch vertical. He bench pressed 225 pounds 16 times, ran a 4.17 shuttle run and a 6.81 second cone drill. Payne ran a 4.61 and 4.58 40-yard dash. He is projected as a late draft pick or potential free agent.
Trumaine Banks
bench pressed 225 pounds 15 times and ran a 4.67 and 4.67 40-yard dash.
Eric Clark
bench pressed 225 pounds nine times, and ran a 5.22 and 5.21 40-yard dash.
Mario Reese
bench 225 pounds 18 times.
LB/SS
John Kunelius
of Southwest Minnesota State, WR Cecil Elekwachi and DB Adrian Mitchell of Concordia St. Paul, WR Jonathon Hawks from Bemidji and LB/S John Tackmann of Winona State also participated in the testing.
John Mackey Award winner
Matt Spaeth
did not participate in Pro Day due to his shoulder injury, but he plans to hold his own timing day before the draft when his shoulder is more suitable for testing. Spaeth is ranked the No. 6 tight end available in the 2007 NFL Draft, according to Scout.com.
