Brewster's Millions!

Former Illinois all-conference tight end Tim Brewster, who captained the Illini's 1984 Rose Bowl team, will be named the new head coach at Minnesota, according to the Chicago Tribune. Brewster, who has spent the past two seasons as tight ends coach of the Denver Broncos, will replace Glen Mason, who was dismissed on December 31 after 10 seasons and a 6-7 record this year.

According to the source, Tim Brewster was in Minnesota on Monday evening, meeting with university President Robert Bruininks and Provost E. Thomas Sullivan to iron out details.

Before joining the Broncos' staff, Brewster was tight ends coach for the San Diego Chargers. Brewster also has 14 years of Division I-A coaching experience, primarily at North Carolina and Texas with head coach Mack Brown. Brewster was credited with the recruiting efforts of former Longhorns Chris Simms and Vince Young.

USC offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin, Notre Dame offensive coordinator Mike Haywood and Florida co-defensive coordinator Charlie Strong also were believed to be interviewed for the Minnesota job.

Mason was 64-57 in 10 years at Minnesota and led the Gophers to seven bowl games, finishing 3-4 in those games.
