Junor RB Brylee Callender is Suspended

Brylee Callender, a junior running back originally from Lakeville, has been suspended for a violation of team rules by Gophers football coach Glen Mason, accoridng to the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

Glen Mason, who announced the suspension in a release, did not give a reason or indicate how long Brylee Callender will be disciplined.

Reached at home Wednesday night, Callender declined comment, saying only that he "needs time to think."

Gophers athletic director Joel Maturi said he was aware of the suspension but did not have all the details. He expected to discuss the situation with Mason on Wednesday night, according to the Star Tribune story.

Callender missed his junior season at Lakeville High while serving a suspension for violating Minnesota State High School League rules. He returned as a senior and led Lakeville to the Class 5A state championship in 2003 and a 14-0.

He was forced to spend two seasons at Feather River (CA) CC after failing to qualify academically at Minnesota out of high school. He signed with the Gophers this past winter and enrolled in time to participate in spring practice and shined in the spring game. He was expected to supply depth to a thin running back corp.
