Brad Thorson is latest Gopher commitment

Brad Thorson, a 6-foot-4, 280-pound offensive lineman from Mequon (WI) Homestead, committed to Minnesota after visiting the campus this past weekend. Thorson was named first-team Milwaukee Journal Sentinel All-Area squad and 2005 Wisconsin Football Coaches Association All-State and was an Associated Press All-State second-team selection this year. He led the Highlanders to a 12-1 mark, losing to eventual champion Racine Park in the Division 1 semifinals this season.

Brad Thorson, who committed to Minnesota this past weekend during his official visit, received an offer last Sunday, according to his father Brian. He had received an offer from Western Michigan and several Division II schools and had been accepted by Yale and possibly Princeton.

Thorson attended the Northern Illinois, Minnesota, Northwestern and Wisconsin day football camps and also went to Boston College and Yale camps.

Thorson also throws the shot put and discus and used to wrestle, although he will not participate on the team this season to "continue to getting ready for college."

Thorson and his family enjoyed their visit to Minnesota this past weekend.

"They treated us kindly and have a great staff of coaches," Brian said.

Brian said that his son will likely play guard or center in college.

"Brad played center growing up through ninth grade. They moved him to left tackle as a sophomore and to right guard this season."
