Minnesota Select Finishes 5-1 in Las Vegas Classic

Dan Vandervieren leads 5-1 Minnesota Select

Minnesota Select, which features Gopher basketball recruit Dan Vandervieren and several of the state's top seniors-to-be finished an impressive 5-1 in the Las Vegas Classic.

Minnesota Select's season came to an end as they lost to the Houston Hoops in the quarterfinals of the Las Vegas Classic, 59-53. Select was limited to just six players as Derek Domino of Spring Lake Park missed the tournament due to a team camp repsonibility, Eric Hugoson from Fairmont was sidelined with a thumb injury and Josh Roysland of Fosston and Parker Skophammer from Albert Lea missed the contest, due to an earlier flight. Ryan Wittman of Eden Prairie scored 15 points in the loss and Dan Vandervieren from Hopkins added 13. Steve Wheeler of Bloomington Jefferson had nine.

Minnesota Select defeated the Utah Lakers 101-82 in the second round of the playoffs as Roysland had 21, Todd Herman of Spicer scored 20, Wittman added 19, Vandervieren tossed in 17, Wheeler scored 12 and Jon Cassens of Prior Lake added 10.

Minnesota Select started the playoffs with a comeback win over the Miami Tropics, 83-77. They trailed by seven with 40 seconds left before forcing overtime. Herman led the way with 18 points. Ryan Wittman scored 15, Dan Vandervieren had 12 and Parker Skophammer added 11.

Select's record for the season was 27-14.
