Gopher target Kendrick Johnson signs with Georgia

Kendrick Johnson, a 6-foot-10, 225-pound power forward from Morton (TX) High, visited Minnesota in September and told GoldenSports.Net that a commitment could be coming soon. However, the Gophers needed a point guard with their last available scholarship and landed Kevin Payton of Camden (NJ) High. Johnson, who had committed to Texas Tech last November during the early signing period along with brother Calvin, a 6-foot-3 guard, has signed with Georgia.

Kendrick Johnson led Morton to the Class A Division I high school boys basketball championship game, where they lost to Normangee 53-51 in overtime. Johnson scored 21 points in the loss as Morton finished 28-7. Johnson averaged 20.3 points and 14.8 rebounds per game last season. Calvin, who signed with Santa Clara, averaged 20.2 points for the Indians.
