Marion Barber III is Offensive Player of the Week

Marion Barber III, a junior running back, was named GoldenSports.Net/Outback Steakhouse's Gopher Offensive Player of the Week for the second straight week. Barber rushed 11 times for 138 yards and scored two touchdowns in a 45-0 win over Illinois. The Minnesota Gophers scored six touchdowns and amassed 587 yards of total offense, including 319 on the ground as they surpassed 300 rushing yards for the fourth time in eight games this season.

Marion Barber III, who won the GoldenSports.Net/Outback Steakhouse Gopher Offensive Player of the Week, scored on a 44-yard run to cap off an eight-play, 95-yard drive. That score put the Gophers up 10-0. He scored his second touchdown on an 8-yard run. The score capped off a four-play, 56-yard drive.

Barber threw his second touchdown of the year with a 21-yard pass to Ernie Wheelwright. He threw a 21-yard touchdown pass to Jared Ellerson against Northwestern on September 25th.

Barber’s two touchdowns moved him into a second-place tie on Minnesota’s career rushing touchdown list with 34. He is tied with his father, Marion Barber (1977-80). Barber’s two rushing touchdowns moved him into a tie for 10th on the school’s single-season rushing touchdown list with 10. Barber holds the single-season record with 17 in 2003.

Barber’s 65-yard run in the third quarter was a career-long and Barber tied his father for fourth on the school’s all-time list with 12 100-yard rushing games.
