Gopher verbal Jay Thomas of Oakdale (MN) Tartan scored six
touchdowns, one on a 79-yard kickoff return and had touchdown runs between 41,
46, 74, 77 and 79 yards as the Titans defeated Richfield 41-29. Thomas had 363
yards on only 13 carries and 447 all-purpose yards.
Marcel Jones completed 15 of 30 passes for 176
yards, but failed to throw for a touchdown as Simley fell to 0-3 in losing to
Mahtomedi 33-0. Jones, who was the first player to commit to the Gophers this
year, has completed 52 of 115 passes for 670 yards with five touchdowns and
eight interceptions. He is leading the team with 60 rushing yards.
Gopher commitment Eric Decker of Cold Springs (MN) Rocori caught
six passes for 101 yards and two touchdowns and had two rushes for 20 yards as
Rocori defeated Alexandria 22-14. He scored one touchdown and had one
interception and five tackles as a free safety. Decker has 22 catches for 297
yards (13.5 yards per catch) and five receiving touchdowns.
Gopher commitment Nate Triplett of Delano (MN) High ran for 183
yards and three touchdowns as Delano downed Litchfield 35-14. Triplett has eight
touchdowns in Delano's three victories.
Joey Hiben of Waconia was held to two carries for
10 yards and three catches for 43 yards as the Wildcats lost to Annandale
35-14. Hiben, who is considering the Gophers, along with favorite Notre Dame, had
rushed 14 times for 143 yards.
Athletic Reggie Rock of St. Paul (MN) Cretin Derham Hall hit
Phillip Wills with a 63-yard touchdown pass on the first play of the game and
Cretin-Derham Hall rolled to a 46-14 victory over St. Louis Park. Rock, who is
getting looks from Florida, Florida State, Minnesota, Miami, Michigan, Notre
Dame and Wisconsin, completed 10 of 18 passes for 191 yards and two touchdowns.
Junior wide receiver Kimuel Royston, who attended the Gopher
football camp, had two catches for 42 yards. He has 10 catches for 171 yards
this season and 13 tackles as a defensive back.
Zach Larsen of Northfield helped lead the Raiders
to a 35-6 win over Farmington. The Raiders have outscored their opponents 118-6 this
season.
Quinn Hendel, a 6-3, 215-pound running back from
Plymouth (MN) Wayzata High,
had a 67-yard touchdown run in the third quarter and finished with 174
yards on 30 carries
as the Trojans, ranked No. 3 in the state rolled to a 26-13 win over Edina.
He will visit Wisconsin and attend the Badgers' game versus Penn State on
Sept. 25. Hendel was in attendance at the Gophers’ win over Illinois
State.
Junior
quarterback Adam Weber of Arden Hills (MN) Mounds Views completed 14 of 26
passes for 209 yards in the Mustangs’ 34-13 win over Park of Cottage Grove. He
is the son of former Gophers player Bobby Weber. Weber has
completed 28 of 58 passes for 548 yards and four touchdowns.
