J'son Stamper, a 6-6 sophomore forward from Independence (KS) CC, is visiting Minnesota this weekend and could wind up as the Gophers' fifth signee for 2003-04. Stamper was offered a scholarship by Minnesota. Gopher head coach Dan Monson and assistant coach Vic Couch visited the Independence campus before heading to the recent NJCAA Tournament in Hutchinson, Kansas.

J'son Stamper was co-Player of the Year of the Jayhawk Eastern Division, along with Andrew Washington from Allen County. Stamper was also named to the first-team All–Region VI Team. He averaged 13.5 points and 11.6 rebounds per game. Stamper shot 51.9% from the field, 16.7% from three-point range and 56.6% from the line. He is an undersized power forward who needs to continue to expand his range.

The Gophers signed Spencer Tollackson, Miles Webb and Enrico Tucker in the early signing period and landed a commitment from Vincent Grier of Dixie State (UT) CC recently.
