Ohio RB Gary Russell is latest to commit to U

5-11, 203 pound running back Gary Russell of Columbus Walnut Ridge has committed to Minnesota after visiting the Minneapolis campus this weekend. He was named AP All-Central District football Division II co-Player of the Year along with fellow running back Erik Haw of Columbus (OH) Independence. Russell finished finished with 2,084 yards and 28 touchdowns this season. He was also named co-Offensive Player of the Year on the All-Ohio Division II team.

Gary Russell is the the first true running back to commit to the Gophers. Dominique Barber of Wayzata also committed, but he is also a defensive back.
