Gopher football target Everette Pedescleaux of Robbinsdale (MN) Armstrong will make his college choice this weekend. Two-sport standout Pedescleaux had a strong summer with the Howard Pulley Panthers and also received recruiting interest from several Division I football teams. However, he will play basketball in college.

Everette Pedescleaux will choose between Tulsa and Northern Iowa. Both schools have their pros and cons.

Tulsa has won 20 or more games in each of the last five seasons and nine of the past 10 years. The Golden Hurricanes played in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC), while Northern Iowa plays in the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC). The WAC is considered the stronger of the two conferences.

Northern Iowa is closer to home and they have a commitment from AAU teammate Eric Coleman of Oakdale (MN) Tartan already. The Panthers also have former Tartan player Erik Crawford, who transferred from Bowling Green to Northern Iowa after starting as a freshman.

Northern Iowa has had just three winning seasons in its 12 years in the MVC and has not made postseason play during that time.

Pedescleaux had narrowed his choices to 10 schools, all of which have offered him a scholarship. He was considering Creighton, Dayton, Illinois State, Montana State, New Mexico, Northern Iowa, Southern Illinois, Toledo, Tulsa and Wisconsin-Green Bay. He visited Wisconsin-Green Bay September 6th, Tulsa on September 13th, and Southern Illinois on September 20th and Dayton September 27th.

Pedescleaux shined this summer as a member of the Howard Pulley Panthers AAU team. He scored 18 points to help the Howard Pulley Panthers 17-and-under team basketball team defeat the Illinois Warriors 70-66 in the Price Chopper Kansas City Prep Invitational championship. The Panthers finished 6-0 in the event.

He is also an outstanding football recruit as well. Minnesota, Kansas State and Connecticut offered him a football scholarship and Wisconsin expressed interest.

Pedescleaux plays tight end, fullback and defensive end for the Falcons, who finished 3-7 last season, but they are 4-1 this year. He has scored six touchdowns this season. Pedescleaux has 19 carries for 95 yards for five touchdowns and has two catches for 22 yards and one passing score.

Pedescleaux is an undersized power forward who is not afraid to use his strength inside as a basketball player and he uses the same approach on the football field.

Pedescleaux is 6-6 ½ and weights 240 pounds. He bench presses 250 pounds and runs a 4.8 40. He said the Gophers were looking at him as a tight end recruit.
