QB Johnny Carlson rushed for one touchdown and passed for two more, but
it was not enough as Minnetonka (MN) Hopkins (2-2) lost to Edina 35-25. He
rushed for 46 yards on 11 carries and completed 9 of 20 passes for 225
yards. He threw a 65-yard touchdown pass to Joe Abellera and a 74-yard score to
David Lange. However, he threw three interceptions. Carlson committed to
Minnesota in June.
Dominique Barber of Wayzata (4-0), who committed to Minnesota, had a 6-
and 34-yard touchdown in the Trojans' 41-12 win over St. Louis Park. Barber has
six touchdowns this season. Wayzata is ranked #7 in Class 5A.
Barber received some big holes behind the Wayzata
offensive line, led by Tony Sparkman, who is being recruited by Minnesota and
Illinois.
#10 Mahtomedi (2-2) defeated Tartan 21-19. The Zephyrs
are led by Jerod Arlich, a standout fullback and linebacker who has scholarship
offers from Minnesota, Wisconsin, Northwestern, Colorado and Navy. Armstrong (3-1) defeated Cooper 41-7 as Everette Pedescleaux had one
rushing and receiving touchdown. He scored from 6 yards out and had an 8-yard catch. Pedescleaux has six touchdowns. He is a two-sport standout who
plays fullback, tight end and defensive end. He has been offered a scholarship
by Minnesota and Kansas State and has narrowed his list to 10 schools in
basketball.
Hutchinson (2-2) lost their second conference game of the season as they
fell to Holy Angels 30-22. Teammates QB Tony Mortensen and T Lydon Murtha
committed to Minnesota.
Liam O'Hagan threw two touchdown passes as Breck, ranked #1 in Class AA,
defeated St. Croix Lutheran 51-16. O’Hagan has thrown for 14 touchdowns in his
first four games. His brother is a pitcher at Stanford and the Cardinal, Boston College and Minnesota are among the schools recruiting him.
Teammate Brandon Robinson has scored three touchdowns in all four games
this season. He had a 64-yard punt return and 99-yard kickoff return for a
touchdown. Robinson caught a 61-yard touchdown pass and kicked a 28-yard field
goal and made six of seven extra points. Boston College, California, Colorado,
Iowa, Minnesota, Northwestern, Stanford, UCLA, Vanderbilt and Wisconsin have all
offered him a scholarship and he is considering Boston College, California,
Stanford, UCLA, Minnesota and Colorado among his favorites. Robinson is one of
the country's top defensive back prospects. He has set up a visit to Stanford
Dec. 6.
Darrel Davenport rushed for three touchdowns of 29, 32, 5 and 35 yards as
Sibley (4-0) defeated Andover. The senior running back entered the game.
averaging 213.3 yards rushing per game. Davenport and offensive lineman teammate
Ryan Knoll both attended the Gopher-Tulsa game last weekend. Davenport is also
an outstanding sprinter.
Jack Simmons of Carmel (IL) High, who committed to Minnesota, led the
Corsairs to a 45-19 win over Notre Dame. Carmel, ranked #1 in the state by the
Chicago Tribune, improved to 4-0.
Matt DeGeest of Harrisburg (SD) High committed to Minnesota in August.
The Tigers jumped out to a 21-0 halftime lead and held on to defeat second-rated
Class 11B Gregory 21-14 in non-conference football action to improve to
2-1.
Minneapolis Washburn (4-0) defeated Minneapolis North 34-0. Millers
standout Tommy Leavitt plays tight end, defensive end and linebacker. He has
been offered a scholarship by the Gophers.
Darrell Jackson of Webster Groves defeated Parkway South
for the first time in four tries as he rushed 27 times for 241 yards and
three touchdowns in a 27-21 victory. Jackson completed just four of his 21
passes, for 108 yards, and was intercepted twice.
Jackson was the Post-Dispatch All-Metro offensive player of the year last
fall. Jackson has scholarship offers from Missouri, Illinois, Minnesota, Kansas,
Ball State and Northern Illinois.
