The Minnesota Gophers got their third football verbal commitment as 6-6, 255-pound tight end/defensive lineman Matt DeGeest of Harrisburg, South Dakota announced that he will play for the team next fall.

Matt DeGeest had attended the Nebraska football camp and was offered a scholarship by the Cornhuskers. His older brother, Derek, played at South Dakota State. DeGeest has added 15 pounds since last season. He also played on the school’s basketball team. His high school football team will start their season Friday, August 29.

The Gophers have also received verbals from 6-8, 320-pound Lydon Murtha from Hutchinson (MN) High and 6-2 John Carlson of Minnetonka (MN) Hopkins.
