Frazier is having surgery Tuesday and his rehab is expected to take between six and 12 months. He is eligible for a medical redshirt and PSU coach Pat Chambers said he expects Frazier to take it and return in 2013-14.
Chambers said the key for his 2-2 team is to not let the injury drag everyone down.
“We can't feel sorry for ourselves,” he said. “We have to defend and compete and go out and play Penn State basketball.”
“We've got to move forward,” sophomore guard D.J. Newbill added. “We feel for Tim, but we have to keep working hard. The season has to go on.”
Frazier led the Nittany Lions in scoring, rebounding, assists and steals as a junior.
The PSU training staff suspected the Achilles' injury while in Puerto Rico, but waited until the team returned to University Park to run tests. An MRI confirmed the rupture.
