Mitchell Repping Spartans on Heavyweight Rise

Former Spartan linebacker Seth Mitchell talks about his meteoric rise in boxing and his relationship with Michigan State.

Seth Mitchell is one of the rising stars in the heavyweight boxing ranks, and at every turn, he has not forgotten his time Michigan State.

"I had a great experience at Michigan State," he said. "I didn't play that much due to injury, but when I was healthy, I started."

Mitchell maintains a good relationship with the current Spartan coaches.

"I have a great rapport with Coach Dantonio, the Strength and Conditioning coach, Coach Mannie, and the equipment manager. We spoke this week. They still call to wish me the best and keep me in fresh Spartan gear."

And Mitchell puts that gear to good use, as he is always entering the ring in green and white, proudly showing off his Spartan connection.

That will be no different on Saturday night when he takes on Johnathon Banks on HBO, and he knows Spartan nation will be behind him.

"I met my wife there. I just had an overall great experience at Michigan State. I've got Spartan pride and I let it be known."
