Recruiting Notes: Interest from Minnesota
When watching film of Jalen, the first three words that come to mind are: speed, vision, and determination. His recruiting profile claims he runs a 4.40 forty yard dash, and based on the way he outruns people all over the field it seems that number is probably pretty accurate. He has a great burst but also shows the patience and awareness to change gears when necessary to set up blocks or throw off the pursuit angles of would-be tacklers.
Myrick also shows great vision when running with the ball, changing direction quickly and at times even cutting back across the entire field in order to find a crease to run through. And once he finds some daylight he turns up field and uses that speed of his to create big plays.
One of the most impressive things about Jalen, though, is his determination. He seems to never give up on a play, especially when he has the ball in his hands. He fights through tackles, makes several defenders miss, and turns plays that should be losses into ten or twenty yard gains. He also does his best to avoid going out of bounds, choosing instead to turn back up field before reaching the sidelines in order to gain extra yards whenever possible, and in some cases is able to gain a lot of extra yards because of his effort.
Finally, in addition to his ability as a running back, Jalen also shows great instincts and ball skills as a defensive back, and is also very dangerous as a kick and punt returner. He will most likely play offense in college, but he has the skill set and the physical abilities to play either position. Either way, Jalen Myrick is going to be making big plays on Saturday afternoons sometime in the near future.
