Brian Cook of Illinois was College Basketball News' Big Ten Player of the Year. Five seniors made the ten-man All-Big Ten team. One junior was named, three sophomores, including Minnesota forward Rick Rickert and first-year player Daniel Horton of Michigan, who was CBN Freshmen of the year, were also selected. The Big Ten was dominated by upperclassmen, as eleven seniors and five juniors finished in the top 25 in scoring.
