Carroll comes from a very athletic family, his father Jay Carroll played for the Gophers 1980-83 and then in the NFL for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Minnesota Vikings. His brother Collin Carroll is the long-snapper for the Virginia Tech Hokies. So it comes as no surprise that upwards of 30 teams, have been talking to Kevin early in the recruiting cycle yet holds just one offer from UNI.
Out of all of the teams that have been talking to you what schools are at the top?
“Northern Illinois, Minnesota, Iowa State, UND, NDSU, SDSU, Michigan State and Northern Iowa are at the top of the list out of 30 schools that are recruiting me at the moment. “
What summer camps are you planning on attending?
“I’ve been to camp at Northern Illinois and Iowa State so far. I’ve also been invited to Wisconsin, Michigan State, Iowa and Minnesota so I will be attending those also.”
What are you looking for in a school?
“I’m looking for a school with a good weight coach and offensive line coach. I want an offensive line coach that isn’t going to blow smoke up and isn’t afraid to kick me in the backside when I need it. I want a staff that will mold me into the best offensive lineman that I can be. It would also be great to have a winning team that isn’t too far away from home so my family of nine could reach some games. But in the end it’s God’s decision where I go and I trust his plan for me.”
Is there any one school that sticks out from the rest?
“UNI is obviously the front runner because they are the only school that has offered but other than that the rest are all equal.”
How much contact have you gotten from the Gopher staff?
”Quite a bit actually, I went to their junior days and the offensive line coach Matt Limegrover visited me at my school. I also got an e-mail from him telling me how excited he is to have me at camp this Saturday.”
What do you plan on working on this off-season?
“I will be working on my speed and technique.”
Carroll also knows quite a bit about the Gophers program and the University of Minnesota as a whole.
“I know a lot since my dad played there and most of my family has gone there as well.”
