Gophers Lose Vann, Commits to UConn

Marquise Vann has made a verbal commitment to UConn. The Fairfield, Ohio linebacker committed to Minnesota this summer, but opened up his recruitment after Gophers' head coach Tim Brewster was fired. The 6-foot, 230-pound Vann took an official visit to Central Michigan but his visit to UConn sealed the deal. Vann is ranked as the No. 63 outside linebacker according to Scout.com

Scout's Take

Analysis: Vann is a thick, squatty kid and that build allows him to get under blockers and take plays on head on. He is strong and can hold his ground against offensive linemen. He shows good burst in a straight line, but is not as good side to side.

He got into a passing lane and picked off a Braxton Miller pass, but it doesn't appear as though coverage and space are necessarily his best assets. From the looks of it, I could actually see him ending up as a defensive lineman.

Verdict: He's a tough, strong defender who makes plays and has a nose for the ball and could be a middle linebacker in certain packages, but with his thick frame and strength, I think he could end up with his hand on the ground. – Allen Trieu
